High Peaks Pure Earth has translated a music video by Tibetan singer Kelsang Yonten titled “Khata”. Khata is the Tibetan word for a ceremonial silk scarf, used for special occasions. Although the title in Tibetan uses the honourific term jaldar, we have used the more well-known word khata.
Kelsang Yonten is a Tibetan singer from Kham and especially popular amongst Tibetans in Tibet and India. This song “Khata” can be found on video-hosting sites such as YouTube and was posted online in early 2012. Kelsang Yonten was one of three singers from Kham (including Choegon) who recorded a cover of Sherten’s “The Sound of Unity” last year.
This is music video number 40 translated by High Peaks Pure Earth since the Wednesday music video series started over a year ago.
