Published in November 2011 by University of Washington Press, “Explorers and Scientists in China’s Borderlands, 1880-1950” is a collection of essays on European and American scientists and explorers in the time of late imperial and Republican China. The eight essays explore the mainly Western figures in Southwest China (predominately located in Yunnan and Sichuan).
Essays are devoted to D. C. Graham, Joseph Rock, Reginald Farrer and George Forrest, Ernest Henry Wilson, Paul Vial, Johan Gunnar Andersson and Ding Wenjiang, and Friedrich Weiss and Hedwig Weiss-Sonnenburg.
