A Message from Serthar, Tibet

Protest leaflet from Serthar, Kham.
The text says “Long Live the Dalai Lama”
The word inside the heart is “Tibet”

High Peaks Pure Earth has been following the news coming out of Serthar in Tibet’s Kham region about protests on October 1, 2011 after a photo of the Dalai Lama and a large Tibetan flag were removed from a building in the town centre. Radio Free Asia has reported the protests by “several hundred people”. October 1 is National Day, the anniversary of the founding of the People’s Republic of China.

Tibetan writer, poet and blogger Woeser has published photos of the protest and a leaflet from Serthar on her blog. Below, High Peaks Pure Earth has translated the leaflet from Serthar that is dated August 25, 2011. Another Tibetan text copied into Woeser’s blogpost describes the scene of the protest with people displaying the Tibetan flag and shouting “Long Live the Dalai Lama”. The leaflets were tossed from rooftops in two sizes.

Tibetan brethren do not fall asleep under the oppression of the Chinese. Fight for the your religion, language and customs. We do not enjoy the freedoms enjoyed by human beings. Everyone must base the fight for freedom on the force of truth. We want freedom of belief. We want freedom of speech, freedom to use our language. We want freedom of movement. We want the freedom that is enjoyed by others.

Long Live the Dalai Lama. Victory to Tibet, Victory to Tibet.

  1. It must happen. Tibet must be freed. How I dont care. It just must be free. The chinese must leave so that Tibetans can live in peace. The torture and cruelty has gone on far too long. It is time the rest of the world spoke out.
    Long live the Dalai Lama.

  2. Bhod Gyalo! Victory to Tibet!
