High Peaks Pure Earth has translated a song by Tibetan singer Phuntsog Topgyal titled “The Call of Loyalty”.
The song has been online since early 2012 along with other songs presumably all from one album. Many of Phuntsog Topgyal’s songs are political in content and his songs overtly praise both the Dalai Lama and Lobsang Sangay, Tibet’s Prime Minister in exile.
“The Call of Loyalty” is about loyalty (in Tibetan ལ་རྒྱ, la rgya), meaning patriotism. Phuntsog Topgyal calls on the Tibetan people to hold on to their loyalty as a means to achieve their goals. The lyrics are written by Jigme Rigpa Raldri, Rigpa Raldri could be a pen-name as it literally means wisdom sword, like the sword of Manjushri. The composer is only identified as “Teacher Choedar”.
Phuntsog Topgyal has also recorded songs together with Kadrak Trayang in the past for her 2011 album which contained the song “Potala”, previously translated on High Peaks Pure Earth.
This is the 57th Tibetan music video translated by High Peaks Pure Earth since the Wednesday music video series started towards the end of 2012. Please go back and watch our other videos using this link: http://highpeakspureearth.com/category/music-from-tibet/

“The Call of Loyalty”

Lyrics: Jigme Rigpa Raldri
Composer: Teacher Choedar
Singer: Khatak Phuntsog Topgyal

Hold onto loyalty, brothers and sisters
Hold onto loyalty if you care for the forefathers’ achievements
Hold onto loyalty, brothers and sisters
If you care for the future path of happiness
Hold onto loyalty
Loyalty is the life essence of a people
And the gateway of thousands of the past
Loyalty is the life essence of a people
And the gateway of thousands of the past

Hold onto loyalty, brothers and sisters
Hold onto loyalty if you care for the lineage of the past emperors
Hold onto loyalty, brothers and sisters
If you care for the honour of both the sun and moon
The Dalai Lama and Panchen Lama
Hold onto loyalty
Loyalty is the confidence of prevailing truth
And the adornment of learned people
Loyalty is the confidence of prevailing truth
And the adornment of learned people

Hold onto loyalty, brothers and sisters
Hold onto loyalty if you care for the bloody footprints
Hold onto loyalty, brothers and sisters
If you care for the enemy’s humiliation
Hold onto loyalty
Loyalty is the strength of a people
And the guide for future happiness
Loyalty is the strength of a people
And the guide for future happiness

Hold onto loyalty, brothers and sisters
Hold onto loyalty if you care for the advancement of the past
Hold onto loyalty, brothers and sisters
If you care for happiness, equality of livelihood
Hold onto loyalty
Loyalty is the wisdom of differentiating true from false
And the aim is the gift of diligence
