Music Video: "Waves of Drichu River" by Sonam Norbu

High Peaks Pure Earth has translated a song by Tibetan singer Sonam Norbu called “Waves of Drichu River” that first started appearing online such as on YouTube in June 2012.
This mournful song and dramatic video has much in common with “Distant Thoughts”, the music video from last Wednesday by Tenzin Ghawa. The Drichu is the Tibetan name for the Yangtze River, Asia’s longest river that originates from Amdo, Tibet. In the last line of the song, Sonam Norbu mentions the “four abundances”, briefly these are the promotion of Buddhism, wealth, sense of pleasure and happiness.
This is the twenty seventh music video posted by High Peaks Pure Earth since the music video series started in November 2012. Below are the subtitled music video and translated lyrics of “Waves of Drichu River” by Sonam Norbu. Be sure to go back and watch our other videos in the series using this link: http://highpeakspureearth.com/category/music-from-tibet/ And do come back next Wednesday for more music from Tibet.

“Waves of Drichu River”

Lyrics: Norten
Melody: Gyarzo Sonam Norbu
Singer: Sonam Norbu

My Protector has left for a far distance
The glory of the Potala Palace has disappeared
Tibetan lives are looted by the barbarians
Ah ha ha
The honourable Protector
The orphans left behind are covered in darkness
The orphans left behind are covered in darkness

The blood of waves is mixed in the Drichu river
The followers are destroyed without a trace
The monasteries are captured by the liars
Ah ha ha
How sad it is!
Who will dispel this pain of suffering
Who will dispel this pain of suffering

From the peak of the magnificent Himalayas
The white Snow Lions of the snow mountains
Will drive out the turquoise evil cunning fox
Ah ha ha
Snow Lions!
Pray for strength of the four abundances to overcome them
Pray for strength of the four abundances to overcome them
Pray for strength of the four abundances to overcome them
