Music Video: "The Unforgettable Year 2008" By Tamdin Tsering

High Peaks Pure Earth has translated a song called “The Unforgettable Year 2008” by Tibetan singer from Amdo Tamdin Tsering.
The song first started appearing online on video sites such as YouTube in early 2011 although it is unclear when exactly it was recorded. The title of the song, referring to the year of widespread Tibetan protests and subsequent crackdown in 2008, calls to mind the singer Tashi Dhondup’s song “1958-2008” and the themes in his 2009 album “Torture Without Trace”.
Tashi Dhondup was to serve 15 months of re-education through labour for his music but the status of Tamdin Tsering is unknown.
This is music video number 35 translated by High Peaks Pure Earth since the (slightly irregular) music video series started at the end of last year. “The Unforgettable Year 2008”

Lyrics: Dorje Drolo
Composer: Gonpo Dhondup
Singer: Tamdin Tsering

Descended from a shared destiny
The noble descendants of Tibetan forefathers
The condition of the people of the Snowland
Flooding into blood

The deadly black poison
Slaughtered the innocent and the weak
For the humble Tibetans
Peace is not just a word on the lips

The depraved and the sinful
Imprison the weak and the innocent
For the humble Tibetans
Peace is not just a calm mind
Peace is not just a calm mind
